Here are some pictures of Aubrey at the final performance of the musical “Hairspray” in New York yesterday. She also went to the afterparty held at Arena. Click the images above to view.
A lucky fan got to meet her at the event and they had a little chit chat. Lucky! Where’s my phone call Aubrey?
Playbill.com: Apparently, you can stop the beat. The hit Broadway run of the Tony Award-winning musical Hairspray ends after the matinee performance Jan. 4 at the Neil Simon Theatre. In late 2008 original Tony-winning stars Harvey Fierstein (Best Actor in a Musical) and Marissa Jaret Winokur (Best Actress in a Musical) returned to play zaftig Baltimore mother and daughter Edna and Tracy Turnblad, respectively. On hand at the closing performance will be many former Hairspray cast members, including Laura Bell Bundy, Kerry Butler, Mary Bond Davis, Shannon Durig, Linda Hart, Jackie Hoffman, Aubrey O’Day and George Wendt, plus the show’s creators, including librettists Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, composer and co-lyricist Marc Shaiman, lyricist Scott Wittman, choreographer Jerry Mitchell and director Jack O’Brien.
Hey guys, well there hasn’t been anything really important to update on the girls. Aubrey’s Hairspray Broadway debut ended yesterday, I would like to congratulate her for making her dream come true, and that she did amazing! The other girls are just appearing here and there, doing performancings, hosting clubs, and charity events. I really hope I can get the layout up for the 2 year anniversary of the site, but looking at my agenda…that might not go according to plan. Cross your fingers! Also, sources that work at a radio station are saying that STRIPTEASE AND PRETTY BOY WILL BE THE THIRD AND FOURTH SINGLE. Not confirmed, but when there is more concrete info. I will definitely make a post. Well thats all guys, talk to y’all soon.
MTV.com: Last week, we saw Danity Kane’s Aubrey O’Day rehearse for her Broadway debut as the uppity Amber Von Tussle in “Hairspray.” But who could be content with just a little sneak peek? Lucky for us, MTV News was invited back to see the real thing on opening night. Minutes before the curtains went up on Friday night, we squeezed into O’Day’s dressing room, where friends and family showered her with flowers and gifts, while she worked out those pre-performance jitters. “I am so excited for my opening night on Broadway,” O’Day said, as she prepared to don the towering wig recently worn by Haylie Duff. “I’ve learned the part in two weeks, so it’s been crazy, but such a beautiful experience and everyone has been so welcoming, and I just fit right in.
“I’m a good nervous,” she added. “It’s positive energy; it’s not negative, but definitely I have butterflies in my tummy right now. I’m just very excited to go onstage tonight and be a little snotty brat.” O’Day wasn’t the only one excited: As soon as the curtains rose, the crowd came to life, but the moment the new castmember took the stage, the cheers rose about six octaves. The sold-out crowd screamed as she made her way to center stage and exclaimed to the crowd in her high-pitched voice, “I’m Amber!”
From then on, every time O’Day graced the stage, the crowd went wild — probably due in part to the fact that the first eight rows were filled with 52 of her friends and family members. “It’s most important that all my best friends from childhood are here,” O’Day said. “All my friends have come to see my rehearsals, and they are like, ‘I can’t believe you are finally on Broadway!’ So, I’m more excited for them and how they will see me.” O’Day hit every note and dance step during the two-and-a-half-hour performance, giving Amber extra flare and sassiness. She seemed at ease and confident on stage while teaming up with her love interest in the play, fellow “Making the Band” alum Ashley Parker Angel, who plays Link.
O’Day said that ever since she was a little girl she has always wanted to take the Broadway stage. So when she took her final bow, she couldn’t seem to wipe the smile off her face. Who could when their childhood dream was finally coming true?
So here are some pictures of Aubrey leaving the Neil Simon theather in New York after her debut performance on Hairspray. I’m not able to add these to the gallery at the moment, but me a few days to work on my FTP. PS: The stage makeup is ridculous! Those eyelashes can seriously poke an eye out! Thanks to sparan07 for the photos!
MTV.com: Aubrey O’Day is more than ready for her Broadway debut in “Hairspray.” We just caught up with the Danity Kane singer and her puppy Ginger backstage. Aubrey, in full makeup, showed off her dog, who she dressed up in a pink wig and doggie cape accessorized with various “Hairspray”-themed trinkets. We talked to her in her dressing room minutes before she graced the Broadway stage for the first time. Her dressing room was flooded with flowers, gifts and family coming by to wish her support and luck — and, of course, telling her to “break a leg.” O’Day seemed in good spirits and was thrilled to have her family and friends in attendance (52 loved ones were there, to be exact). Aubrey shook off those last-minute jitters, but she seemed more than ready to get the night started. She told us she couldn’t wait to get out there. She went on to say that she is fulfilling her childhood dream of being a Broadway star.
So how did Aubrey do? Check back here on Monday when we have the full show report for you plus video of Aubrey in action!
Sorry for the lack of updates this pass weekend. Explanations and more coming up soon.
